The Journey to Bethlehem

I wonder what it was like on that night,
Was Mary frightened?
Was Joseph enlightened?
The shepherds were brightened,
and angels lightened a sky whitened!
In Bethlehem.

The journey was long for the maiden,
This the ninth month of gestation,
Yet on they went without hesitation,
No prearranged hotel reservation,
So, a manger bed was the implementation!
In Bethlehem.

Heaven cheered as God was born,
Jesus the Christ came to save from sin,
To all of us, yes! We can begin again,
Feel the Spirit and that rushing wind,
There in the hay, the Savior of all men!
In Bethlehem.

I am one soul that has truly believed,
That the crude crib led to a cruel cross,
Because, like me humanity is so lost,
God took that baby and paid the cost,
Christmas child, You are Lord and boss!
In Bethlehem.

At Our Fall Festival Night

BCBC Fall Festival Pics

At the Fall Festival last night I looked around the room of 300 plus people of all ethnicity, age, size, squeaky clean, redneck, tattooed and a plethora of diversity.

They smiled, waved, ate together the nachos and hotdogs and generally yukked it up.

Why? For the children who were costumed and having a blast.

We do what we do for the children. They are so beautiful, special in that frame of childhood for such a brief time.

The little ones are so very dependent. We do what we do for our Lord and them.

They are the common thread of unity in our divided society.

It was our joy as a church to welcome the community to our God provided grounds.

Thank you Sherry Sparks, Jesse Hernandez and the over 60 volunteers who made this happen. Blackburn Chapel wants love on you in Christ Jesus.

The Bethel football team will be here tomorrow evening, and yes, they are welcome too.

Virgil Savage and Jessica Hernandez, good job with the youth.

Thanksgiving meal will be on the 14th of November and we do it again.

Awesome kitchen crew!

Two funerals in three days and you served again.

Thanks. Love my church!

Multiple Ministries at Our Church…

BCBC

Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church is one of the “Revitalized” older churches that experienced a turn around over the past five years.

One of the expressions is seen in multiple ministries and many believers involved in expressing the “Help others in Jesus name” mission flow.

Here are a few of those we covet your prayers over:

Disaster relief work, missions in Guatemala and Taiwan, Men’s ministry, Women’s ministry averaging nearly 50 a week, Tutoring, Jail ministry, Prison ministry in three institutions, Salvation Army, Red Cross, Youth, Senior citizens, Outreach to schools, Evangelism, Partnering with a church in Kansas, and a half dozen more.

I am bragging on God and the Lord’s Church here at Blackburn.

The study done of revitalized churches asks pertinent questions of Why? And How? And What was used?

The near 300 question study called for Scriptural answers and practical labor of Gods people.

Our church was in this top 3 percentile of revitalized churches in SBC life.

Though I am retiring in January, I am certain this heartbeat for Jesus will continue.

Over 130 baptism in the past 4 1/2 years has given rise to salvations of all ages… mainly adults… and placing of a quality study Bible in their hands with instructions of how.

I love my church!!!

Blackburn Chapel, you are truly a living expression of Christ.

I Wonder…

Have we gone too far away from God?
Have our hearts become too hard, selfish and prideful?
Have we put our trust in government, Hollywood and media?
Have our churches lost their identity with the world?
Have we become immoral and culturally absorbed?
Have we coined an excuse for every sinful behavior that our grandparents blushed at?
Have we compromised by fitting in rather than standing up?
Have we completely lost sight of death and judgment?
Have we ceased to hear the widows plea and the orphans cry?
Have we picked over and chosen our pet verses of the Bible but ignored His call for holiness and righteousness?
Have we ceased to genuinely pray and purified our hearts through the shed blood of Jesus Christ?
Have the old time Baptist, Methodist, Pentecostal and other believers of the true doctrines of the faith gone away?

I wonder, I wonder…

Being Faithful

Great is Thy Faithfulness

At this early hour I am pondering the faithfulness of God to us and our being faithful to Him.

The antiquated hymn says, “Great is Thy faithfulness, great is Thy faithfulness, morning by morning new mercies I see. All I have needed Thy hand hath provided, great is Thy faithfulness Lord unto me.”

I believe it is settled in this matter, our Lord loves us, will not forsake us and provides for His own.

Now, our reputation is another story, for we are creatures of mood and highly unstable in our consistency of faithfulness. Our opinions and emotions often dictate our dependability and form excuses to be a “Bo Bergdahl” and leave our post.

We must keep our eyes on Jesus, the journey with Him and His assignments inside His bride, the church.

Paul wrote to the church at Corinth telling them to be,”steadfast, immovable always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing your labor is not in vain.” 1 Cor. 15:58

A small church or mega church, a morning or evening, daily Bible reading and prayer……be faithful.

Problems, Wonderful Problems!

prayer

As we met for annual planning with the church leadership and to evaluate and appreciate what God had already done, noticed we had some problems.

These problems were wonderful reflections of growth and new ministries. We are running about 3/4 capacity in worship but another 50-75 would start to squeeze the folk, so plans may be needed for two services before the year completes.

New Bible Studies are needed due to several classes started last year. So, again space will be required to multiply Sunday School.

The parking lot had already been expanded but we have out grown the expansion and more space is needed. Some Sundays 250 plus in worship and it seems all drive a separate car.

Good problem to solve.

God has sent teachers, singers, instrumentalist, missionaries, bus drivers and some to evangelize. Our calendar is full, so that is another wonderful problem as Youth, Children, Men, Women and Music all vie for coveted spots on the monthly map. Finances are great!

We decided one most needed area of growth was PRAYER PERSONNEL. So, each ministry of the church will furnish one person to help form a team of prayer participants to pray for these needs:

1. The staff and leadership and deacons
2. The teachers and mission leaders and outreach workers.
3. The needed space and supplied finances.
4. Unity, humility, purity, vision, patience, repentance and faith.
5. More workers, defined areas of missions, reaching the lost.
6. Prayer for missionaries and mission offerings.
7. Pray for other churches and convention leaders.
8. Prison & jail ministry, tutoring, poverty needs, drug recovery.

Of course, there is more, but by far Prayer is priority.

Walk With Me

Walk with Me

I woke unto another day,
with age an aches upon me;
The doubts and fears began,
all the gray my eyes could see.

I opened the Book to seek truth,
a light shown on my plea;
The voice I heard, my heart stirred,
“Today, come walk with Me!”

The hand reached out slowly,
my faith and spirit agree;
As I rose to move with the Master,
who bid, “Come walk with Me.”

The flesh will always worldly pull,
into sins immorality;
Yet, I have chosen to obey His voice,
and heed, “Come walk with Me!”
