I was in a bookstore recently looking for a particular book by John Phillips.
I noticed five books by different titles on atheism on the shelf in the Religious section. Some were a defense of non-belief in God. Intellectually they are challenging and some claim to be spiritual in nature, I suppose in a sense they are but of the darker spirit. They work to cast doubt on God and His followers in a modern tongue and cheek. They judge in a way in which they sanction us from doing. They are the stoic and epicureans on the Mars Hill of life scratching their head, stroking their chin and pressing on for proof in a faith embraced persuasion of our Christ.
Paul would tell you that they won in a sense, when he crossed swords with the philosophers of his journey. But realistically they lost because they were lost and smugly tried to convince themselves in debate with others. Paul later declared not many believed, so his next stop he purposed to no nothing but Christ and Him crucified.
There is a big mental ascent to believe God is, and that He is a “rewarder” of those who diligently seek Him.
The older I get and the less time on my calendar, I find only genuine love and prayer for those who disbelieve… but whether a lost atheist or a religious fanatic, it is the relationship that is concerning. You either have it or you don’t and you want it or maybe not, so control lies in the individuals hands for now.
Ron Reagan recently began doing commercials for keeping religion out of government and closed his pitch by saying,” and I am not afraid of burning in hell.” He giggled, and I believed him, but doubt he is alone, because many who profess a belief in God or His Christ, share a similar, though silent, non-fear of God.
Everyone is coming out of the closet now. It’s time true believers came out of the closet too and lovingly let the love and light shine. Don’t be intimidated, but inspired.
“For I know who I believed in and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day.
Life is too short, we are too busy and too tired to mess with such as these. Prayer? That is a different matter. I will let God deal with the foolish and fanatics. He will. 2 Timothy 1:12
